Tallinn, Tõnismägi

Petition
We are voluntary participants, protecting The Bronze Soldier, the monument to the victims in the Second World War on Tõnismägi, would like to address to all people of Estonia:
On our own initiative we stood up for the protection of the monument and we will not allow any acts of vandalism be committed to the monument and the tomb of the killed soldiers. For this purpose, we have organized ‘night patrol’, which lasts from 22.00 pm till 6.00 am, to protect the monument from being profaned by provocateurs and vandals.
We do not belong to any political party, we have neither organized nor constant structure. We do not receive any financial support from political parties or public organizations. We protect the monument voluntarily and gratuitously. Everyone can come and help us!
We believe that the situation around the monument has become aggravated because of the inactivity and connivance of authorities, who allowed the unauthorized meeting to be held in the center of Tallinn on May 20, 2006, and also because of the acts of vandalism to the monument on the 20th, 21st and 22nd of May, 2006, which are depicted in photos, video and the evidences of eyewitnesses.
In the 20th century, people of Europe found themselves between the devil and the deep blue sea, the opposition between fascism and communism. We invite you to find solutions to the controversial issues with the help of Hitler and Stalin’s methods, but in a way which is accepted in the civilized society and the European Union, which respects history, culture and traditions of all people.
We are not the aggressive group of young people or the opponents of the state of Estonia. We assume that any act of vandalism should be stopped by legal actions. Therefore, we will oppose peacefully any probable provocations and will inform the police of Tallinn about any attempts to organize such provocations.
We believe that it is absolutely deplorable when the demonstrators on Tõnismägi have been carrying the national flag of Estonia, our Motherland, showing disrespect for symbols of our state.
We strongly object to the representation of the following situation as attempts of inciting interethnic enmity, disloyalty to the state and the society. We address to mass-media with the request to show responsibility and be precise and correct while broadcasting the events.
We intend to continue night patrols on Tõnismägi at the monument until the society and the authorities reach an agreement on the issue regarding the Bronze Soldier, which symbolizes the victory of Europe and the whole world over fascism, and also belongs to the history of our grandfathers and parents.
We, the people of Estonia and the citizens of Europe, our desire is world peace, mutual understanding and respect for our country, our Motherland, our symbols and traditions.
